A Plant for Kids of all Ages!
The Venus Fly Trap is a very fun plant, loved by people of all ages, especially children. They are found in the Carolinas of the United States as a ground cover in open forests. The Venus Fly Trap lures its prey with sweet smelling nectar. When the insect lands on one of the traps, it will trigger one of the hairs located within the jaws of the trap. Once triggered the trap will snap closed, trapping the insect. The plant then secretes an enzyme which essentially dissolves the insect, turning it into a digestible meal. After a few days, the trap will re-open to await its next victim.
Light: Bright light but not direct sun
Water: Venus Fly Traps are sensitive to any chemicals; it is best to water using distilled water or rain water. Keep your plant moist at all times but not soggy.
Fertilizer: It is not necessary to fertilize your Fly Trap. The insects they consume provide them with all the nutrients they need.
Temperature: These are warm loving plants; keep between 70-95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Humidity: To help increase the humidity, keep your plant in the enclosed container it comes in--or if you prefer your plant out in the open, place it on a tray of pebbles with water in the tray, just to the point where it almost touches the container.
