E. B. Stone Citrus & Fruit Tree Food
is a blend of select natural organic ingredients for use with citrus and other home orchard fruit trees and with small fruits like berries and those grown on vines. It is formulated to encourage new growth, lush green foliage and to support bountiful crops. E. B. Stone Citrus & Fruit Tree Food is rich in nitrogen, which is essential for all fruiting crops. It also contains phosphorus and potash, which are important for fruit production. It may also be used to feed shade trees, flowering trees and ornamental vines. Don't forget to check your pH and lower as needed with our Soil Sulfur for healthy citrus. |

We still have about three weeks before spring starts, but here at Orchard there is a wonderful selection of blooming plants. You’ll see hydrangeas, tulips, daffodils, clematis, campanulas, freesias, mini roses and more. It is a perfect selection of spring colors for a sunny window, tabletop, or entryway. The plants also make great and easy gifts to put a smile on everyone’s face, raining or not (this covered shopping area keeps you out of the rain too).

We are proud and honored to participate again in the annual Bouquets to Art, March 16-21, at San Francisco’s de Young Museum.
For those not familiar with this event, the de Young Museum, in San Francisco, invites the best florists in the Bay Area to interpret its collection of art with floral design. This extravagant floral event, robed in color and texture, is truly a treat for the senses and not to be missed. We hope you can attend this exquisite event and be sure to look for our masterpiece in flowers. Our talented designers, Jan Bush and Carolyn Russell, will interpret the painting entitled, “Caius Marius amid the Ruins of Carthage” by John Vanderlyn.
We look forward to viewing their floral design at this spectacular event. For more information call the Flower Shop, 925-284-4474.

The tuberous begonia is a longtime garden favorite, relatively easy to grow and available in a wide variety of vibrant colors and styles. Hanging basket varieties have smaller, more profuse blooms, while the upright varieties have larger flowers. Begonias like partial shade and will bloom all summer, making them perfect for brightening up a dark corner or adding some color beneath shade trees.
Begonia tubers are in stock at Orchard Nursery and now is the time to shop for the best color selection and largest tubers (the larger the tuber, the larger the plant will be). Plant begonia tubers in well-draining soil in hanging baskets, pots or in the ground once the danger of frost is past. Orchard Nursery has Bulb Planting Mix in 12 qt. bags, which is an ideal mix for begonias and just the right amount for an average size hanging basket.
Begonia tubers require shallow planting, not more than one-half to one inch deep. Make sure that the concave side is facing up and to avoid rot, tilt the tuber slightly so that water does not accumulate in the bowl-shaped depression. Begonias perform best with good air circulation, so consider this when planting and do not crowd them (recommended spacing is usually at least 12 inches). Water tubers deeply after the initial planting. However, once established allow the begonias to dry out slightly between waterings, as they are more drought tolerant than they appear. Feed with a balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season to ensure a long period of healthy blooms.
In the fall, the tubers can be dug up and stored to plant again in the spring. Once blooming slows and the leaves start to yellow, reduce watering. Remove the stems after they wither and carefully dig up the tubers. Dry the tubers in the sun for a few days, shake off the loose dirt, and store in a cool, dry place until spring.
