OCTOBER |
October can be a very active month because it is the best time to plant just about anything, from an entire landscape to a few flowers and bulbs for winter and spring color. Landscape plants take hold fast in the cooling weather and soil still warm from summer. The sun is low, and they need less watering, with winter rains helping out later on. Even if you see no growth above ground, roots are growing, and when spring arrives, new plants will explode with vegetation. Though many of these benefits last into January, days keep getting shorter, so if you have grand plans, start soon.

Why, she’s the name of our most beautiful pheasant feathers. This season, the Flower Shop has a lovely selection of feathers to trim your harvest home décor and permanent botanicals. We are decorating our fresh flowers and live plants with this unique trim you won’t find anywhere else. We have shopped far and wide to find you the best prices on “Natural Fall” pheasant feathers. The Flower Shop will re-do, add to, or make new any wreath, centerpiece or artificial arrangement to charm you and your company and make your home a trend setter. Since feathers are “the” trim of the season, that means chickens aren’t far behind. The Flower Shop has every kind of chicken you can imagine – indoor, outdoor, fuzzy, sweet, charming and silly.

Change of Season Furniture Sale |
| As Fall arrives in most parts of the country, Casual Furniture Stores advertise End Of Season Sales. At Orchard Nursery & Florist, we think of it as a Change of Season Sale. As the temperature moderates a bit and the daylight hours change, we know that your opportunities for enjoying your “Outdoor Room” are still plentiful and can continue into the last months of the year.
|
For our Furniture Department, the Change of Season Sale this year includes a larger than usual variety of product. If you saw something earlier in the year that was just a bit too “spendy,” this is the time to pay us a visit and see if it is still available, but at a more affordable “Change of Season” price... . |
Un-assembled wood furniture, primarily teak, is our best offering this season-end... Our regular price on first quality teak furniture is marked down by 40% if you take it unassembled in a box.
Other “best” deals are on the “odd ball” (look what we found hiding in the warehouse!) items. This includes single tables, chairs and accessories. A chaise left over from 2 years ago. The table with only 3 matching chairs. |
Also included in this best deal category is furniture discontinued for the 2006 season by our manufacturers. This means first quality, complete dining and deep-seating sets and accessory pieces where the factory has notified us of their plans to discontinue a style or a frame color or a fabric. |
In some cases, we find ourselves in an overstock situation (our buying decision that didn’t pan out). This situation also means first quality goods available at rock bottom prices. |
| We still have a selection of in-stock replacement cushions and market umbrellas and with savings of up to 75% off, you’ll want to take a look.
As you visit to enjoy Orchard’s Harvest Festival, be sure to take a moment to review this season's best deals.

It’s time to plant daffodil bulbs! |
From King Alfred (the traditional yellow trumpet) to Delnashaugh (a pink and white double daffodil), we have over 75 varieties of daffodils to choose from. Daffodils come in many sizes (6 to 20 inches tall), many shapes (large trumpet, small trumpet, split corona, double…), and many color variations (yellows, whites, oranges, and pinks).
|
|
Delnashaugh |
| To get maximum color in a border, plant 2 or 3 different heights and blooming times. For example, for a fantastic traditional yellow daffodil display, plant King Alfred daffodils in the back (we have a jumbo size bulb that will produce 5-7 blooms per bulb!). In front of the King Alfred, plant February Gold daffodils, and in the front of those plant Tete-a-Tete daffodils. The February Gold daffodils will grow to be about 10 inches tall and bloom very early spring. The King Alfred and Tete-a-Tete daffodils in front and behind them will grow to be 18 inches and 6 inches, and will bloom in early spring- just after the February Gold, providing a longer lasting show of color.
